PTO shafts are designed to slip in and out of each other so you can vary how long they are for different tractors. So you need the shaft long enough to be together enough to not pop out of each other and short enough not to bind when lifting an lowering. Not sure on TO-35 if your ground speed is slow enough. Many older tractors have a 1st gear that is way to fast to use a tiller. A couple examples of tractor that go to fast are the 8N ford and many fords from the 40, 50, and early 60s so good chance your to goes to fast

But does that effect the speed of the PTO?? If it does then you still are out of luck. My Ford 841S has the Sherman combo which give it 12 forward speed but effect the PTO speed so I cannot use a tiller on it

I have a KingKutter II that came from TSC (model TG-72-Y) (72 inches)(may have had it for 8 to 10 years). Only used for a few years and has been sitting in the barn. Worked OK behind an MF 255 and would have been OK behind the MF 35. Just had to modify the tractor 3-point arms so that they would not move so much from side to side (done with wire rope and eye bolts). A more modern tractor would have that feature as standard. And an interesting note: both the MF 255 and the MF 35 have multi-power: the tiller pushes forward when in the ground; and this pushed the tractor forward faster than desired (with multi-power in low, the tractor can free wheel).
Seems like a 48 inch tiller might be too narrow for a TO-35.
And if you are interested: My tiller has not been placed on Craigs List yet but is going to be soon and it is not too far away (near Lancaster, PA). And it will be cheaper (only cost $1000 when new).

(quoted from post at 07:43:31 06/20/18) Sunday and if the guy still has it I am going to look at a 3pt tiller. how long should the shaft be from the tiller to my TO-35's PTO shaft ?

thanks.

I have a 5ft tiller on a TO30 that I work up an acre or so sunflower patch every year. Works just fine.
My PTO shaft is short because of the over running clutch.

Well, first off- how good these machines- brand- from the get go? I don't own anything made by them. I have 2 tillers, one a Caroni, the other- same factory, different name after a merger... Del Merino. Both almost brand new, 700 for the newest one, the Caroni wasn't used much either, got it a while ago- 400? Few are ever 'overused', most do small gardens, even if a commercial place had it, their soil and conditions rarely wear at them. If that's the price around there... but he did say best offer?
4 feet is a bit narrow for a 35 with average tires and wheels- 8x24's are a perfect match to till over the tracks. But by 'dressing' it to one side, with one anti sway bar, with practice you can cover all but one of the last tread tracks. Unless you want to use the tracks for rows to walk on. If the company is reputable, and it wasn't abused, see what you can do with the price... good luck.
