TO35 rear main seal

Does this tractor have to be split to replace the rear main seal or can it be done from the bottom with oil pan off?
Thanks

No, the flywheel has to come off to get to it.

How is the rest of the engine? Many times a leaking rear seal is a symptom of loose mains and excess blow-by. If the engine is getting tired, a new seal may only be a temporary fix.

I believe both a split and dropping the oil pan are required. I think I remember 2 of the fasteners that hold the oil seal are only accessible when the oil pan has been removed

thanks for the info although I was hoping it would be easier. It runs well, good compression, no smoke. It sat for several years and I think the seal has just dried out. I will try some snake oil before I split it.

Also make sure the crankcase vent tube is clean inside.

If the engine has a history of not using oil, running it a quart low will usually slow one from leaking.

We have an old forklift at work with a Continental engine. Trying to run it full of oil is futile. Let it run down to a quart low and it all but stops leaking.
