Leak off pipe to filter

Hi all

New to the forum and hoping you guys and girls can help. Why do some TEF20 tractors have a leak off pipe from no. 4 injector back to the filter.

In my original parts book there is no listing for this pipe, so is this a modification, what's it for, do I need it as some seem to run fine without it.

Welcome to the board!! I think you answered your question... "do I need it as some seem to run fine without it." Now if this was a machine I was more familiar with, I could provide
you a better answer. Once it starts leaking, I suspect you might have a problem.

Don't know much about diesel fuel flow, but my TO-35 standard diesel has a leakoff pipe from each injector going back to the tank. No clue how this is used. Excess pressure / fuel perhaps?
