TE 20 Hydraulic issue

I have posted previously that the 3 pt on my TE 20 has started to not want to go back down after lifting up. I still have not had a chance to pull things apart but one thing I did notice is that the oil level is low.

Will this cause the problem? I ask because I don't want to add oil to just have to drain it out to take the pump out. When I encounter the condition that will not allow the arms to go down, the draft control lever is somewhat springy in that if you are pushing it all the way down it will not stay down.

Thanks

Ryan

The POST-MORTEM on a couple of TEA-20s .....there was so much water ,foreign material, and sludge mixed with the oil, the working clearance was non exiting..

It only takes the tiniest particle of grit in the right place to jam them .Most times you can free it off by taking the side cover off and reaching in with your hand through the oil to the valve below . Of course do this as JD suggests with the[b:4617c6b2b5] engine off . [/b:4617c6b2b5]

I have freed it by doing this in the past, so should I get a new valve or just change the oil?

Thanks

The last time you changed the HYD. OIL?

How many operating HRS. since OIL was changed?

Type and weight of OIL in HYD. system?

I bought the tractor from an estate in Jan 2015. I took it to a shop and had them change all the fluids and get it up and running for me. There was so much water in the trans that it had frozen solid and we had to drag it on the trailer. I picked it up from them in May 2015 and that was the last time any fluids were changed. I have not used it much more than working a few food plots each year. I don't have an hour meter but would guess there are less than 75+/-.

If you have the time and inclination pull the pto shaft out. There is a dead spot behind the pump that gathers all manner of debris . Pulling the shaft allows an extra five litres of mankey oil and crud to be removed . Once this is out a quick flush with some diesel will remove almost all that's left.

Hmm, this all seemed to start after I pulled the shaft to replace a leaky seal. I wonder if it got crud in the oil.

I would be inclined to drain the oil , certainly keep it to reuse though .
Pulling the shaft would be an obvious cause of sediment being stirred up and creating this problem . Once drained freeing the valve off should be fairly straightforward , cleaning any residue would be easier as well .
Make sure to have enough buckets available ! I use a child's 'clamshell' sandpit when draining mine , It's big enough to hold all the oil and span all three drain bungs and the pto shaft entry.
