Head gasket fo Ferguson TE-20

(quoted from post at 13:01:53 05/03/18) How difficult is it to replace the head gasket on TE-20 ?

Not very... But, what is the problem? A leak?

Try re-torquing the head nuts first.

Have replaced points (not sure of gap) plugs, and wires after it started running rough. Still runs rough. Can pull plug wires from cylinder 2 and 3 with no effect. Pull 1 or 4 with definite effect. Was told could be head gasket between 2 and 3 ?

So your just guessing you have a bad head gasket and have not trouble shoot it right??? Time to do a compression test and see if those 2 cylinders are down on compression. Trouble like that can be as simple as bad plugs or bad plug wire or even a distributor or intake problem or even a valve or 2 set wrong

And the next step I would be doing is verification of my ignorance with putting the #2 wire on the #3 cylinder and then the #3 wire on the #2
cylinder to see if my problem magically went away. . . .
Yes, I have done that and not too long ago. . . .you can also switch the wires in the cap and try that. Got worse? Then two and three are
doing something. I have also seen bad condensers drop a cylinder or two. Put the old one back in.
That comp. check might be in order. . . .
Now if you do get into the head gasket and you get an original one the book says to coat it with cup grease. Whu? Yeah. "wheel bearing"
grease. Just a light coat on both sides helps it slide into place when torquing.

It's not a "difficult" job, but going in without a good game plan can quickly turn it into a major ordeal!

Like others said, test, don't guess.

A shop manual will be a very good investment. It will more than pay for itself in mistakes not made!

Not hard. As others said get a manual, but, first check your plug wires. As for installing the gasket, I have used copper gasket spray on the
gaskets and also nothing on the gasket. Your choice.

I don' know what the point gap should be on it but most use 0.025 for the gap so good chance it is that
