Z134 rod and intake valve retainers

I am rebuilding a Z134 which dropped 2 intake valves one of which destroyed a piston, liner and rod. I am in need of a rod and two intake valve spring retainers.

Dropping 2 valves is unusual.

Had the head been apart shortly before?

Sounds like something might be mismatched, check the retainer fit carefully on all the other valves!

I just bought the tractor from the son of a 92 year old who may or may not have known the condition of the engine or its past. This tractor seems to have had a history of being 'rode hard and put away wet'. I will check the other retainers. Thank you. I am doing a mostly complete engine rebuild. I am not looking to replace the cam or lifters. Am I making a mistake here?

Look the cam over when you get in there.

A failing cam will show signs of the sides and tops of the lobes pitting, the lift ramp rounding off, and
the top of the lobe wearing away. What you want to see is the lobe profiles all the same, a mirror finish
on the top of the lobe with no pitting. Check each lobe, common for one to fail and others to look good.

The lifters should be flat, not concaved.

Cam and lifters should be replaced together, lifters need to go back on the same lobe if removed and not
replaced.

If you are working this inframe, getting the cam out is very difficult. Best done with the engine upside
down.
