Concerning my TO 30, I'd like to thank Ron(ONT) and Tom Bowman for helping me figure out my starting problem AND that's what it's all about isn't it? Helping each other out. I know sometimes for folks who hang out on certain sites it can get boring or tedious to see the same kinds of issues being talked about, but for someone who doesn't hang out here it can be most helpful, which it was. My tractor had a starting issue and thanx to Tom I figured out had a dead short in the starter, and thanx to Ron after I replaced the starter to make me realize- even though I didn't want to- my timing was off. I'm not the best mechanic surely, but reading a little further in the forum helped me figure out how to pull the #1 plug and wait for the (right) puff of breath to check the timing. Took a couple of tries but when I got it started right up. When I first got this tractor was leaking hydraulic oil from the starter so I had to do a tractor split to replace a $2 seal on the main shaft. Instead of crying about it the experience helped me realize what a quality machine the Fergie is and how much more I appreciate it now. I appreciate the help I find here too.

Thanks. I am glad I could poke you in the right direction. :D
It can be tough trying to sort things out through someone else's eyes.

(quoted from post at 08:46:29 03/27/18) Thanks for the update, foxTOOTH - glad I could be of help.

I replaced it with a rebuilt starter from HITE Parts Exchange in the Columbus Ohio area. This "new" starter works great, really turns the motor over well with my 6V system- not like a rebuilt starter from a parts store.

Well, you know I just didn't want to believe the timing could get off by marking and pulling out the dizzy and letting it hang straight down. After your suggestion I went back out there and pulled the dizzy again and hell it gets off by just pulling it out.
