Cleaning out trans housing

The hydraulic oil in my latest project was trash. I dropped the hydraulic pump to clean that up & I'll be replacing the gasket between the trans & center housing since that is weeping. I'm going to pull the axle housings so I can clean out the differential. What kind of a project is it to clean out the transmission case? I should probably do more than just pull the drain plug based on the sludge I found in the other compartments.

Word of advice if you pull the axles only do one side at a time. That will hold the differential in place and make things a lot easier.

Unless there is another reason for further disassembly, I would not go in just to clean it out.

Just swab it out with some solvent soaked rags best you can, remove all the drain plugs, flush it with solvent, kearo, diesel, etc., let it drain thoroughly.

They are forgiving, a little sludge won't hurt anything.

An old weed sprayer filled with diesel works well enough , the wand lets you dislodge things from obscure corners . Pulling the PTO shaft out will also allow a lot of trapped grit out .

Weed sprayer it is. PTO shaft is already
out since the pump is out also. I'll just
get it as clean as I can without any
further disassembly. Thanks
