engine serial no.

That tells me that is a TEA 20 Ferguson tractor. TEA 20 means T=tractor, E=made in England, A=the engine is a Standard Petrol engine, and it is the 85mm engine.

The suffix EVR at the end of the serial number indicates that this engine has Exhaust Valve Rotators. I have the same suffix on my engine and broke a valve spring several years ago. While taking off the valve cover I noticed small ball bearings laying in the oil on top of the head. I picked up all the parts but could find nothing in the manual about them. I contacted John(UK) and he was aware that in the late year engines (1954) some were equipped with exhaust valve rotators as a test for the new 35 engine. He was not aware of the engine suffix but found out about it through research. He requested that I take photos and measurements which I did and sent them to him. He tried, unsuccessfully , to locate replacement parts so I managed to put the one I had back together and reinstalled it. Still working OK.
If you do break a valve spring or have to remove the valves be careful you do not lose the tiny ball bearings as they could possibly drop down the pushrod holes.

I cannot find the email I sent to John with the exact measurements etc. but the photos will give you an idea of what to expect. John tried all possible suppliers in US, Europe and Austrailia with no luck.
Hope this helps.

Further info: John(UK) also said that the rotators were not really needed and the valve spring could be replaced as usual.

Ron, the complete engine no. is SC93135EVR. As near as I can determine it is a 1955 or 56. Engine casting date 12-4 , Rear housing casting date 17-2-5

I presume, then, that you are missing the serial plate by the steering wheel. The 12-4, if this is the number behind the generator, would be a casting date of February 1, 1954. The transmission casting date is February 17, 1955. There is a chance there was a warranty replacement of the rear end. So my guess is that you have a 1954 Fergie.

Although any owner could have bought a transmission or engine from a wrecker and do a swap.

I assume it is a gas only engine? Your fuel tank has only one filler cap?

Yes the serial no. plate is missing, it is a gas only engine. I am located in Belle River, ont.

Sorry Ron I sent you a typo error on the engine no. behind the generator it should be 6-12-4

Okay, that changes things a little. Engine cast December 6, 1954. That is more consistent with the rear end casting date. Your tractor was most likely born in March, 1955.

From the serial number you have a 1951 TO-20. It was built early in the year because they switched to TO-30 part way through 1951.

The Z120 also confirms a TO-20, 20 hp Continenetal engine.
