Gday I know this is kind of an implement question but since it will be hooked up to my fergie I thought I would ask here.

I'm looking at buying a box blade scraper and I'm trying to decide between a 4ft and a 5ft. The manufacturer specifies 15-50hp for the 4ft and 20-50hp for the 5ft.

Am I going to be asking to much of my Fergie if I go the 5ft? It's a 1951 85mm but obviously quite a few horses will have bolted by now.

I'm going to use it to build a driveway and level out some padocks and I believe this will be well suited to the task.

Any help gratefully received.

Five feet should be fine if you tackled the job sensibly and with prudence . The overall weight of the blade will be the most significant factor , the Fergie will pull it well but the lift may have trouble raising it if it is really heavy .
I regularly pull a six foot grader blade with my 1952 TED20 , the pump chatters a little when lifting but otherwise when in the lowered position the tractor handles it very well .
Of course box graders can collect a huge amount of soil and gravel so you would need to take small depth cuts and shorter runs .
The extra width of the five foot blade will make grading an eight foot wide driveway a little easier , two runs with an overlap will cover the entire road surface with one ridge in the centre instead of three narrower runs with the resulting two heavy ridges left right under the wheel tracks.
