TEF 20 Serge running problems

Hi Everyone just after some help with a serge running problem i have with a TEF 20. I'll try and give as much info as i can. Ive only had the tractor for 6 weeks so im still learning about it.

I recently had to replace the diaphragm in the injector pump because of a hole that had in it. I pulled the pump off as i also had to replace the back gasket on the fuel intake as it had a leak. I also took off and clean the injector breather as well. I soaked it in petrol over night and than blew it out with air.

I placed anything back on the pump and installed in back onto the tractor and bleed the fuel lines in. The tractor started up really well and idled fine. When i went to drive it i throttle up and the revs increased but than dropped down, but than serge up. This kept going over and over while i quickly drove it 100m out of the paddock back to the shed.

I straight away thought there must be an air leak causing the issue. After checking everything was tight i was still having the serge issue. In the end i found that the threads in the pump that hold the breather had been striped slightly and that the breather couldn't be done up tight. I took it off and sealed the hole with my finger and the tractor run fine after that.

My knowledge on how the breather works is very limited but im guessing the air was leaking through the bad threads or the breather it self is stuffed. Is it possible ive damaged it soaking it in petrol to clean?

I want to try to re thread the hole with a tap but im unsure of what the thread is. The outside of the thread is .47" Can someone tell me what type of thread it is.

I'm i on the right track on fixing the serge running problem.
Thanks
Luke
