Jerry, Hello from Ohio, How are things in the big empty?, Was out snow plowing and thought of you as the slag pipe for the back blade idea i got from you sure saves a lot of time as you don't have to watch the blade for scalping, just drop it and go. GREAT IDEA JERRY, Thank you, And hope you are well, Good luck to you and yours in the new year....As ever, Ed

Hi Ed,

I"m glad the snow blade is working so well for you. I"ve about wore mine out since I built in in 1989 and have used it regularly since then. It"s time to put a new piece of pipe on since mine is worn flat. That will be a summer project. You did a nice job on building yours. If I recall correctly, it slips on instead of being bolted into the cutting edge holes.

I sent the design to our county commissioners because they spend all summer putting gravel on the roads and then spend all winter knocking it into the bar ditch when they plow snow. They pooh poohed it saying it will wear out too quickly. Since they have a lot of the tax payers money to waste I guess they don"t care. But pipe is pretty cheap especially will all the oil field pipe around.

We are having a snowy winter, though it started a bit late. We haven"t see the ground since a week before Christmas. We had about 3 feet of snow since then with a spell of -14F temperatures, but it has warmed a bit and we"re getting some thawing-just enough to make a mess!

Best regards to you.

Jerry

I would like to make one for my blade. What diameter pipe do you use for the bottom of the blade?

Thanks for sharing your ideas and information.

I used a 2-1/2 inch pipe and a 3/8 x 6 inch plate the length of the blade width. I drilled holes in the plate to match the holes in the blade so I could still grade with the grader blade or switch it out to use for plowing snow. After after 29 yeasr the pipe is pretty worn so I"m thinking of getting a 3 inch pipe to place over the 2-1/2 inch pipe to keep on plowing.
