Re-assembly TE20

Been rebuilding my '48 te20 for the past year or 2. finally at the point where all the parts are coming back together. Looking for tips or tricks to get the hydraulic/tranny top plate back together, while getting that little lever at the bottom into the correct place? My hands dont quite fit in there well....

also a little word of warning- when i took the top plate off (where the seat mounts) the gasket looked suspicious so i took a sample to work to get tested- proved to be 50-75% asbestos! So that was fun trying to remove the partially torn and unusable gasket off without contaminating the rest of the shop.

I looped a strong piece of string over one leg of the fork and ran it out thru a bolt hole on the opposite side or bottom. Took minutes to get it together after I used the string.

I quit freaking out over that stuff when - in the 90's- hearing on the news, the Province of Quebec tested EVERY asbestos mine and refining worker, past and present, living and dead... and found that every chain smoking asbestos industry worker died of lung cancer. Everyone who did not smoke... did not have lung cancer.... so I kinda took that for face value...
