Tea20 method for replacing of gearbox and hydraulic oils

Ok well I have successfully flushed out
gearbox and hydraulic, axle. It's so clean
in there you could eat your breakfast off
of the sump floor although may taste of
diesel. So my question is should I fill by
putting oil in the hydraulic area while I
have the top off or just fill by means of
the filler plug on the gearbox. I don't
know how the oil gets from the gearbox to
the hydraulics. Am a little worried that if
I throw it all into the gearbox the
hydraulics will be left without
lubrication.
Cheers

Good reason to be worried!

If you fill from the transmission too fast, it will dump oil out the front (usually failed) seal, and into the clutch! There is a small passage between the 2 cases, takes a while for the level to equalize.

I would put everything together except one of the round covers, then fill the sump through the cover hole. Reason is, if you fill the oil before putting it together, and drop something in the sump, be hard to find. The fill level is just at the round cover bottom bolt.

I also use Steve's trick and fill the bulk of the oil through the side plate .
Another trick when filling is to leave out the bottom bolt of the dipstick plate . This coincides with the full mark of the stick so if the oil level is too high it will come out of the hole .
The reason the oil passages between the gearbox and rear end are so small is to stop the oil flowing to the low side when working on a slope and leaving the high side dry .
Always fill slowly when using the gearbox bung and wait for a few minutes between each litre .
