Tea 20 Front Hubs

Hi
Thought I would check on the play of my Fergys front Hubs, there is some up and down play in one of the spindles so will replace thrust bearing on that side.
The other issue is that neither hubs contained any oil but appear to be well packed with grease, my question is then is this an acceptable scenario or should I overhaul so as to get to the point where the hubs contain oil without leakage.
Thanks and Merry Xmas

I have NEVER seen front HUBS on a TEA 20 or MF FE 35 X OIL FILLED.

Now, there may be locations on this Planet that have OIL FILLED front hubs on a TEA-20......?

Merry Christmas to you Sir.

Prior to 1953 aproximately mid year from memory at serial number 325001, all TEA,D 20 Tractors had oil filled hubs . These are distinguished by a large brass square headed pug at the rear of each hub . The owners hand book specifies engine oil for them , 5/8ths of a pint .35 litres for each .
Later models did have grease nipples fitted to the outer bearing cap and were indeed greased rather than oiled . The best of both worlds for an earlier model is to fit a grease nipple to the oil filler bung and add grease to the oil in the hub . They will always leak a little , especially if the bearing is not preloaded when fitting .

Hi Charles
Well think I like the idea of swapping the
brass oil filler plug for a nipple and also
Johns nipple on the end of the hup cover
too

A little front Spindle and Hub trivia.

I had to replace a front HUB and SPINDLE on my MF FE 35X: "1963"

As I have several TEA 20 Parts Tractors.......yes the complete assembly was a perfect fit:

The inboard side of the TEA 20 hub is such that the Studs can NOT turn:
