35 tranny lockup

Hi,

bought a dead TO-35. Engine is free when clutch engaged, rolls when hi/lo is in middle position; cannot move gearshift lever in any direction. If its like my Ford 640 that suggest transmission is stuck in two gear at once because of wear on the shifter let two forks be engaged at once. On the ford I pull the plate on the tranny and manually move the forks back. On the 35 it looks a little more involved because the steering pedestal sits on the transmission (or so it looks). Any tips for me on this issue?

thanks in advance.

Bill

Remove the oil fill bung then with long screw drivers you should be able to line them up about the same way you did on the Ford only you can't see it as well.

Remove the oil fill plug as Richard L mentioned, don't need to push the clutch pedal down either. Placing the Hi-Lo lever in the center neutral start position will relieve any gear tension. Down inside you will see a large gear, that's first-reverse. With the long bar move the gear forward just enough so the gear shift lever will move cross ways again. What usually happens is someone tries to shift fast from first to second, the lever gets over into the second-third rail BUT the first-reverse over shoots the neutral and goes into reverse. Shift it slow and it won't happen, got to remember, it ain't a HURST..
