3pt staying up on TE20

Was working a field day before yesterday and out of the blue when I raised the cultivators they just stayed up and would not go down. It was late so I just left it and returned yesterday after some research and searching. When I started it up the 3pt worked. So, I figured I would continue in order to have it malfunctioned before I began diagnosing. It took approx. half hour and it did it again. I shut it down and took off the right cover. I put my hand on the linkage and with slight forward pressure the unit dropped. I started it up and working up and down I found that in order for it to malfunction I needed to leave the lever up. As I watched the pump seemed to actuate the linkage to the rear and when it would stick up was when it seemed to not relieve the pump pressure. If I took a long instrument and ever so slightly put forward pressure on the linkage it would drop.

Thoughts?

Thanks

Your control valve is sticking. With the engine off remove the right side plate. At the bottom of the "H" shaped control fork, you will find a "T" shaped piece and this should be attached to the control fork and to the stem of the control valve. You may have to reach into the oil, but make sure the control fork and the control valve are connected and move the "T" shaped piece fore and aft. They should move a total distance of about an inch and should move freely.

It seems like the valve is traveling too far out of the pump allowing it to get cocked in the bore and not slide back in. Does that make sense? Is there an adjustment?

Many pumps in these tractors have an oscillator rod that is designed to move the valve gently to stop it being stuck by grit . The rod is held into position by a circlip and it is this clip that often fails . When it does the valve can start to stick immediately and will continue to do so . Rod is shown on the rhs .

That makes the most sense because it just started happening out of the blue. I assume I should plan on taking the entire pump out? When I was in there I did not see this part but was not specifically looking for it either.

This photo is from 1260 Engineer's old site .

If your pump is fitted with a rod it will be similar to the one seen on the rhs .
To examine this the pump has to be dropped out from underneath the transmission housing .
