The Shell Rotella would be good oil for this engine but almost any engine oil that is 30 or 40 weight will be fine in that engine as the oils we have available today are much improved over what was availa ble at the time that tractor was made. I'd probably use 10W40 from any manufacturer.

I'll second the 15w-40 diesel oil. Might drop down a little for really cold climate use.

The diesel oil is better suited for the old flat tappet engines, which the Z134 engine is.

The modern automotive oils are good, but designed and regulated more for sensitive emission controlled engines with roller cams.

a lot depends on how you use your 35. my 35's see very light usage and few hours a year. i do use the rotella 15/40 now but for over 20 years bought whatever was on sale at WalMart. i also used straight 20 or 30 weight oil until it proved too hard to get around here. cheap oil never caused a problem for my machines. but like i said very light usage.

Thanks all, not my tractor but on a horse farm I work for, no one seems to know what oil to use, the tractor gets run every day to haul manure, and has to sit outside.
