Fergie engine upgrade

My TEA-20 engine needs overhauling. It has the Standard 85mm engine. There is a engine rebuild kit that is 87mm that they say will fit my engine. Also claim some more HP. Have any of you guys installed this kit in a TEA-20 standard engine? If so, did you run into any problems?

Careful with this upgrade Johnny , it seems that some kits require the liner seats in the block to be machined lower to take the larger liners . An expensive process and one that is difficult to get done.

I'm with Charles here. You could open up an expensive can of worms for no reason.
A rebuilt 85 is as powerful as a grey fergie ever gets- or should get? Like the octane findings on the US news this week, how much more power you going to get for what you will pay in extra $$? This 2mm job might not justify the time and money.
And mine wasn't a hard or expensive a job compare to some. A new clutch while it is apart, and loaded tires (tyres) and you might be impressed.

I would not do it either. Just thought that I would say hi to a neighbour. :)

Good morning Johnny R. Glad to see you have a great Tractor TEA-20......:)

Have you ever overhauled a TEA-20?

Do you have the service manual for the TEA-20?

Plenty of experienced gentlemen on "YT" with TEA-20 experience.

Bob...

If your engine needs overhauling it is bound to be down in power. You might be surprised at the improvemrnt of a properly done standard overhaul. Why burden 60 odd year transmission with more power than it was designed for??

Hi Ron, What part of Ont. are you located?

Hi Charles, Changed my mind on the 87 mm kit. Going with the 85mm kit. Not worth the costs to get a teeny bit more hp.

Going with the 85mm kit. Brother will do the rebuild. He's a tractor mechanic with many overhaul jobs under his belt. He knows the Fergies inside out.

A wise decision I think Johnny.
Besides to get all the up of a 35 engine you would most likely also need a 28G carburettor and a head with lager valves .

Hi Ron, What part of Ont. are you located?

Near London. What about yourself?

You should consider doing the overhaul yourself, and just use your brother for guidance.

I intend to do the work with my brother, having him for guidance. I live near Waterloo.
