Well, the wet spot was much deeper than expected. Used the winch chained to a tree to pull it out.

You are lucky. You remember where i told you my grandparent's farm was? up the turnpike? Back in the 30's- when they could't afford the loss, a team of horses sank in quicksand and were under water and drowned before help could get there. Forget the tractor, wear your life preserver... I don't want to think of how many times i got stuck like that up there... life in the north country.....

That must have been a hard day for your grandparents. Unlike a tractor, you can't fix a drowned horse.
I walked through this spot mid summer when there wasn't much water and thought the ground was firmer that it turned out to be. I'll wait until it's frozen to get past at this point.

The clutch is fine. It was in the mud hole about 30 minutes and after we pulled it out I used it for about another 40 minutes so it should have gotten hot enough and spun the clutch long enough to dry things out. I had not used it since that day until this weekend and wondered if something might be stuck, but everything worked fine. No sign of water in the rear end or engine oil either. I do need to remember to check the cotter pin under the bell housing...forgot to do that this weekend.
