I have a to 30 with a 129 continental engine. The block is cracked and is beyond repair.

There is a 134 block available that has been in a fire. Does anyone know if the 134 engine will fit in place of the 129, and if so, are there any modifications necessary to do so?

Also, are any of the parts interchangeable from one to the other?

I've often wondered what kind of a MODERN
day (widely and easily available)engine
would come the closest to fitting (TO,TE)
20 and 30 tractors.
88'ish 2.0 ford 4 cylinder looks close
but the starter mite present problems.
Would NOT want to cut bellhousing (of
tractor) to make anything fit.

I "think" it can be done.

The flywheel is different, but if the 134 flywheel will work, it is better.

May be some difference in the front where the axle pivot mount bolts up.

As far as internal parts, crank, rods and cam, the later model 129's might be the same.

I'm doing a lot of guessing here, so proceed with caution.

Try checking the archives, this has been asked before.

None that I know of.

But even if the engine could be mated to the bell housing, there is nothing for the front axle/radiator support to mount to.

Quick answer is sorta yes. I tired it once, I didn't leave it there, and a 20 or 30 arsend is a waste of a good 134... trouble is... how bad was the fire? The cracks are usually 'mendable' and if the bigger engine lost its heat treating in the fire, you are no better off. The most obvious mis match is the 30's bell housing has half the bolts of the 134, cause the tin oil pan never bolted to the bottom of the tranny. And the big cast iron tab that covers the starter hole on diesels...and you have to use the 30's single stage flywheel...I'g try to fix the cracks in the block first...

LOL. If one can find an engine to mate to the Ferguson trans with minor mods or adapter then the front axle/radiator support is a piece of cake.

I wouldn't be opposed to retro-fitting a Briggs and Stratton engine. B&S makes engines up to 37 HP. I think the Z120 is only about 30HP???

I'm not after more HP. I just don't like the Contenental engines.

Is the 134 as proned to block cracking as
the Z120 and A129 are so proned to
cracking???? I don't know about the 134.
But if it is proned to cracking then the
fire victim 134 may also be cracked too.
NOTnecessarily from the fire but just from
usual probability of the Contenentals
cracking. Idont know.

There used to be an old mechanic in my area who worked for the local IH dealership back in the 40's until around 65. He repaired a
lot of cracked blocks by mixing water with evaporated milk in the cooling system and then running the engine quite hot for a while. I
don't know how long he ran them or how much milk he used.

the original block was cracked in five places across the webs between cylinders.
There were several attempts made to weld the block but all were unsuccessful.
The block was scrapped several years ago. The tractor is not worth a lot even if it were in running condition.
At this point,I'm working on another tractor.
I have several tractors, so this is not a real high priority right now. The 134 engine was in a fire and there were several tractors involved. The guy is scrapping most of what was in the building and the 35 was burned beyond repair. There is another engine that I am also looking at as it is a ford industrial that will fit in three of my other tractors. Thanks to all who have responded.
