Hupp transmission removal

I am having the fork for the first and second gear replaced on my TEA 20 and it has a Hupp Dual Drive in it. The mechanic who is working on the tractor is unsure how to remove the Hupp. Any advice would be greatly appreciate.

If Steve Bieberich see's this he will know. You might go to FENA web site(fergusontractors.org) and go to resources and it could have a link on it.

Hupps come out when you pull the nose cone. After that comes one of two options. Look at the gear at the back of the case. Can you see the bolts holding it in place? Easy to remove. Can't see the bolts? Rotate the gear to align notches in the rear gear so you can get to the fasteners. 8MM Allen head I believe. Don't forget to pre-fill that Hupp prior to installation.

Then if you find some broken parts, I might have some.
The early Hupps were prone to hanging between ranges and breaking a gear now and then. Later designed Hupps had a 4 spline shaft, instead of two and improved shifter forks. That back gear is a good indicator as to top speed of the Hupp. If the bolt heads were clear, your top speed should be around 25 MPH. if those back bolts were covered, your probably going to top out around 15 MPH. That is figuring a good condition engine and full throttle.
