TO30 NUMBER II

There was an add in the "local" CL yesterday for a TO30 down near Lafayette. I have been looking for a cheapish parts tractor to go with the TO30 I currently have. This looked a fit, so I went down this morning, about 2 hours, to see it.

Well, when I got there, the nice gentleman hit the started and she cranked right up, no smoke at all. I drove it around, steering soo much better than mine, all gears seemed ok, lift went up and down, no load, pto looked good and no noise. No oil in water, no water in oil. Fluids looked pretty good.

Sheet metal was way better than mine, from the pix, it has all the emblems, most of the lights, no dents in the fenders, few minor rust marks. He had bought the tractor with bush hog reasonably and only needed the bush hog. Said son of a man near Lafayette, La had it from new till he passed at 93. Well cared for. He must have been tall, cause the seat is tall, and the gentleman said he cut off 4 inches from the base when he got it.

I could actually tell him more about the tractor than he knew (blind leading blind), but I saw a handle on the left hand dash and asked him what it was. Hood latch he said, No way I said. Never saw a hood latch on mine. The starter is the original in the gear shift. Original tool box gas tank. Gauges need replacing, although the oil pressure gauge worked, it just say low-normal-high. Not sure if that's a replacement. It is a converted 12v. Rear tires look a little rough, but seem to be holding air from the inside so that's good.

Well, we got down to business, he wanted 800 for it, I have seen non runners going for 500 around here. So, using my astute negotiating skills, I got him down to 800. But he did loan me his trailer, chains and binders to get it home (someone stole my two trailers).

All in all I'm pretty satisfied. Guess now I will need #3 if I want to have a parts tractor.

DC1, I am so glad you put your email on when you started to post about this tractor.

I want to tell you in case you do not know that seat on this tractor is called a Knoeddler.

Do not give it away that seat when available can sell for really decent money. I saw one sell for $145 at an auction because 3 people wanted it and it was not in very decent shape.

I have heard of where different old tractor supply places do have some parts to get them back in great shape. You did a great job of not posting about this tractor until after you bought it. It sounds now as you can have a weekday tractor and a weekend tractor. HA HA Good Job!!!!

I am surprised that your first TO 30 did not have a hood latch on the left side of steering column, The TO 20 & TO 30 all left the factory with that hood latch release handle.

Richard, my folks were rich in many ways, but money wasn't one of them. I figured on the hood latch, once it broke, he never saw the need to replace it. Heck, he never drove backwards fast enough for the hood to fly up anyway. He used the tractor most every day he could, garden, filled in a 100' x 100' pond with a scoop, took him 3 years, drug firewood to the house. So, aesthetics was not his strong point. LOL. Heck it never had brakes, never since I have known the tractor. He'd say, we have plenty of trees, bump one if you have too.

I'm attaching some additional photos. Need some help to identify a couple of things. Appreciate it.

Pix 1-- what is this chain for? Figure it's a stay chain for using a bush hog or other implement?
Pix 2-- what would they have used this for?
Pix 3, 4, 5 -- I'm thinking this is the original carb, starter and gas tank. It was converted to 12v at some point. All work just fine, so I'm not going to tear into them. Gas tank looks clean on the inside from what I can see, sediment bowl is clean.
Pix 6 and 9 are the custom seat. Last fellow cut out 4" from the base, said he was so high he was getting nose bleed, but it is comfortable.
Pix 7-- data plate
Pix 8-- gauges need to be replaced, about the only thing I see so far, well rear tires too.
Brakes work!

i am not seeing where it was removed, maybe just repaired? looks like we might have different models

Couple more pix. It pulls my little disc fine, I turned over the garden. I figured the chain with 4 holes must be the upper lift arm on the 3pt hitch. I tried it and it works.
