TO35 No Fuel

I have a 1955 35 that isn't getting fuel. It ran in June. The tank doesn't look bad, I put fresh gas in. I went to clean out the sediment bowl and it seemed to be half full with like a blue or gray clay. While I was cleaning the bowl I opened the valve and gas came out. I took the line off the carb and gas had run out of the line (whatever was in it), it was clean. I took the drain plug out of the carb, nothing came out. I reassembled the sediment bowl (I didn't see any screen in it) and opened the valve, nothing. No gas. I loosened the nut on the sediment bowl and the bowl would fill and over flow, but nothing goes to the carb. I'm wondering if it's a issue with the sediment bowl? If it is, I'd really like to fix it as it is a original HF. I assumed the line was clear as there was gas in the line when I removed it from the carb. Also, the carb filter was spotless. Ideas or thoughts?

Try loosening the fitting at the carb again, see if the sediment bowl fills, it is probably just air locked due to blockage at the carb.

If you get fuel at the carb fitting, you have one of 2 problems.

1. There may be a screen inside the fitting that screws into the carb. take the fitting out and look, it could be clogged, especially if the sediment screen is missing.

2. If no screen in the fitting, the float is stuck, the needle valve is stuck, or there is trash in the seat above the needle blocking the flow. Whatever it is, the carb will need to come off, the bowl removed and cleaned up. Easy job, if you're careful and don't tear the gasket, just clean it up, put it back, good to go!

Just be careful when dealing with the fuel supply, keep everything clean! Let the fuel flush the line for a few seconds before connecting. The smallest piece of trash can cause flooding problems.

That's the odd thing, the sediment bowl doesn't even look like there is a place to put a sediment screen...there is like a 1/4" brass piece that sticks down about a 1/2". There's no way the screen I picked up for a "35" is going to fit. Just wonder if the original HF had a screen?

The screen in the carb was spotless. If the rain stops I'm going to make sure the line to the carb is clear. I'll try your idea, then start on the carb. Thanks!

It may be an aftermarket valve.

Can you carefully cut a hole for the brass piece to extend through?

The screen goes above the gasket, the gasket holds it up IIRC.

It's not aftermarket, it's stamped HF, but that is an idea to make a screen fit. Not sure if they had a screen in the early ones or not. I'm going to check the line, but I have a feeling I'm going to have to go through the carb.
