TEA 20 Steering Arms

Hello Good People.
Checking out the oil in the steering box today and seems very low but no signs of leaking but that means nothing as its been sitting idle for a very long time as I slowly go about reconditioning her. I will top up oil tomorrow as that will determine condition of seals then.
Any how my question is around the steering arms and in particular how much play if any should there be in and out. If I pull outwards on the arms then i have some movement and same pushing arm inwards.
Thanks for any info you may have.

A small shift of a few mm is fine , otherwise jack up the front of the tractor so the wheels are free and adjust the set screws on the side of the box . To do this loosen the lock nuts a little and use a big flat bladed screwdriver to screw them in a little , do this evenly and slowly . Turn the steering from lock to lock a few times then check again before tightening . Don't over tighten the set screws .

A few mm is what you should aim for Kaesark , any tighter and you risk excessive wear .
While you are at it flush and clean the steering box , this is not an easy task as there is no drain plug . Lots of residue is down the bottom and any water that has found its way through the top bearing will rust the bottom steel plate or corrode the alloy casting . A decent wash out with kerosene or diesel agitated with some compressed air then sucked out with a gearbox syringe will do .
Consider refilling with a mixture of oil and grease , it works as well as the oil but without the constant dripping from poor seals .
If you can remove the steering wheel then greasing the top bearings is a really important task.

Hi Charles
2.9litres of oil is a lot and would level off well above the steering arm seals. Made the adjustments you mentioned and checked for sludge etc but have to say
very clean inside and steering column bush etc nice and tight with no movement so I suspect previous owner has done some work on this prior.
Managed to bang out that old top link pin so all in all not a bad day.
Cheers
