TO-30 Throttle Adjustment

It's been a while since I've been on here. I replace the carburetor on my TO-30. Runs great, but it idles/runs too fast. I f I move the gas lever it slows down, so I think I need to adjust the linkage. How do I do that? Thank you.

P.S. Ordered the carb from YT last Sunday. It was in today's mail. Great service and a better price that another supplier.s
 
Are you saying that when you move the throttle lever to the idle position it will reach idle speed but then speeds up again or that it never reaches proper idle speed?

If it will reach idle speed while you hold the lever in the idle position but then creeps up again you probably have a worn friction disc.
If it doesn't idle down satisfactorily you may just have to adjust the idle screw on the throttle lever right at the carburetor. The carb probably would not be set properly as it is new so there will be some adjustments to make.
 
Right. If I hold it, it will idle down, but then the lever jumps to a high idle if I let go. Makes it kind of hard to back up when you have to hold the gas lever and turn the wheel, especially with an implement or trailer on the back. Thank for the reply.
 
The aftermarket carbs are somewhat generic. The linkage may be different, or may need to be adjusted for your application.

Compare it carefully to the original.

The length of the rod from the governor to the carb may need to be adjusted. Look 2 posts down, there is the procedure to get the governor working as it should.
 
Steve; I think this might be my problem, but someone painted the threads, so the nut doesn't move. I might have to put it in a vise and apply some fire. I'll have my BIL help me; he's a much better mechanic that I am.
 
If you have a service manual it goes through the linkage settings for the carb and governor. Actually very easy to adjust just follow the instructions.
