TE20 - Lucas Generator???

Hi all, I've got a '48 TE20. It has a Lucas generator which is in working order. But, it has always had a Delco type regulator on it. It over charges the battery, when running at about 13+ volts depending on speed of engine. Yes, it is a 6v regulator.
From what I've read, the Delco and Lucas generators are two different animals and the the typical TO regulator won't work on it. Is the correct?
Is there any work around for this as I never see any Lucas regulators?
Any tips welcome. Thinking seriously its time to convert to 12v since it has no lights or anything.
Thanks

Going 12 volts is an option. I have one of each and I did have to replace this 6 volt regulator once 35 years ago. But OK since. I have also had to replace the alternator once. Here is a source in England as an example. I have bought parts from England although not this company. Take a look. https://www.holden.co.uk/displayproduct.asp?pCode=RB108/6V#prettyPhoto

I meant to add when the regulator is working, it usually regulates to 10 amps to replenish the battery, then there is a little heater in it that slowly reduces the charge to just enough to run the tractor. It will kick it back up to 10 amps if you are say, running lights. Simple, but it works.

You [u:e2c19e175d]are[/u:e2c19e175d] best to stay all Lucas. I found this one on Ebay which looks like the correct replacement. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Voltage-regulator-RB108-replacing-Lucas-NCB120-for-MASSEY-FERGUSON-TEF20-/252636836495

A Delco regulator will not work on a Lucas generator.

Delco gens are type A, the field terminal is grounded to make it charge.

Lucas, and some others, are type B. The field needs power applied to make it charge.

Best to use a Lucas regulator.

I'm surprised it has survived this long without burning out.

If you can find the right regulator, and make it work, keep it 6v, you will have better long term service. It may be difficult to start if everything is not correct, but once it is right, it will start. You will need a good battery, 0ga battery cables or larger, a healthy starter, well tuned engine with good compression and fresh fuel.

Converting to 12v can cause starter and flywheel gear problems, especially if it gets started a lot.
Type A and B Generators
