Manifold to-35

I am replacing the manifold on a to-35. The nut heads are 9/16. I cannot get a socket or wrench to clear the casting. This will also be trouble on the new manifold. I tried searching the topic but it did not pull up.

I am guessing the nuts are not original. Either way has any one had success. Is there some type of thinner wall deep well or other socket/wrench to fit?

I removed mine but i don't remember what i used but they were hard to get out . The bad thing was the new one was harder to put back on . I may have used some metric and i think i ground the out side of the wrench and socket i used to get the clearance . I'm sure some others on here might know which tools to use .Good luck .

When I replaced the manifold on my TO35, 1957 model,

I bought some cheap open and closed in wrenches and some cheap sockets,

I was able to grind them down so the walls are thinner, bent some of the wrench handles, etc:
However I do have a good assortment of snap on and proto wrenches they have top quality thin walls on the sockets

What ever worked, hardest, part, insuring the final torque numbers were right using those odd bend wrenches,

The new manifold I bought was not as clean or as smooth as the older original manifold,
But it worked, no problems tractor runs great,

On your new manifold you may have to grind down some areas to get the nut and wrench on later, the new castings seem to all have a bit of
extra material on them. I had the same issue with two replacements

I have mine off right now. Took the fuel tank and heat shield off, and used boxed-end wrenches from above and below.

Late reply but may be of use to the next guy or the next time you do the job. I posted this a while back and haven't been on here in a long time.

If that link doesn't work, search by author: jarhead_1981 or search for TO-35/MF35/Continental Easy Manifold ON/OFF Fix
