Steering wheel slop

I have a 1954 TO30, the steering wheel has more 'free play' then I wish. I have a shop manual, however
I do not see anything about adjusting this. Is there an adjustment that tightens the steering box gear mesh?
Thanks.

Yes there is. On either side of the steering are large nuts that have an adjustment screw in them. Loosen the nur and hold it while using a large screwdriver to bring the screw in to tighten up the steering. I am pretty sure the manual mentions this, or check the archives here.

Parts 28 and 29. If you have the IT manual it describes the procedure in steering gear

Besides the adjustment as you turn the steering look at where your radius rods attach to the trans case and see if they move in and out radius rod ball or mounts may be worn, Replace or go with a two cent quick fix.
