The top link has hole to put rod through so you can adjust(turn) length. The left piece is to screw on threaded end and then locks the length you want in place.

the rod has lobes on each end to keep the rod from falling out of the top link. no way I can see to get it through the holes without using a hammer.

What? No instructions? Big surprise, eh? yep, the rod you just slam bam thru with a BMFH (big mo fo hammer)and the crimped ends will keep it from falling back out. The big tab is a Positive Stop Lock that threads onto one end of the top link -I keep mine on the ball socket end nearest the operator seat attached to the rocker. I don't really use it as I make constant adjustment all the time depending on which implement and what I'm using it for. Think about it. When both ends of the top link are pinned, it can't move out of position and self rotate can it? The only way it can move is when you turn the adjusting handle to shorten or lengthen the stroke. I suppose you could lock down one end so it won't move when adjusting, only the opposite end would move. I guess there was a reason for this, but I basically just keep my lock nut out of commission. It is there if I ever do need it.

I don't think most of us would rear instructions anyway.

After all, instructions are just the manufacturer's [i:b5cf4017fd]opinion[/i:b5cf4017fd] of how to assemble something.
