massey-ferguson 50

Those have wet sleeves with oring seals.

The sleeves just sit in the block, so with the head off they can ride up, get trash under the seat and oring. If that happens they will have to come out, the seats thoroughly cleaned, new orings installed.

If the head has been off before they may be leaking, or they can just start leaking on their own.

talking with IRV (hope he is still alive) is a hoot.

sorry to hear about the cracked block. I love the old ferguson's but the Continental block was weak.

Check with local MF dealer for a shop that pins blocks. They will drill and tap between the sleeves on the lower end and put in bolts to close the crack. Last one I had done cost me $250 for a TO30. Plus the cleaned the block thoroughly

Whtle you are waiting, take the pan off and see what's really wrong. Usually, the blocks crack - famous bad design from the get go. But, there is an 'o' ring on the bottom of each cylinder, and they can give out too. Or had been installed badly years ago, but gave out on your watch. Get under there with a lead light, and wait to see where the drip is coming from.

David Shea from Vermont Tractor Parts has a Z134 block in stock. I bought a complete Z134 engine from him about 4 years ago. I have since put 200 hours on it and it still runs great. You can reach him at 802-link_disallowed
