TO35 oil change Update

Got the oil changed in the old TO35

However it was not without a little drama,

Drove tractor until motor was operating temperature
Drained oil,
Removed oil filter canister
That is where the drama starts, trying to remove the filter from the canister, clamped the filter bolt in the vice, then pulled tugged on the canister trying to get the filter off the bolt, finally it cam off, but so did the spring and flat washer and they when flying into the shop,

I found the spring but not the washer, reassembled the filter and put it back on,
When I started to put the plug back in the crankcase there was the washer laying blow the drain hole,
So I took filter off again and installed the flat washer, hopefully in the right order, spring, washer, filter,

Reinstalled filter, added oil, tractor ran like a top, so far no leaks,

Just more drama than I like and the filter is very hard to get out of the canister, maybe I am doing it wrong, I use Napa gold filters 1010 I think,
Hopefully job done for another year,

Hi there,

In most cases, but not all, if the washer is not there the oil is passing around the hole in the "spring end" of the filter and is not filteret at all.

Then, some filters are like you describe, that the bolt is hard or almost impossible to get out, and when you get it out, the washer and spring flies all over the place, and if you are out of luck you find them a decade later in some odd place when you try to clean the rain gutter.

In those cases I only take out the filter element, and wash the cup with the bolt, washer and spring in.
Does that make sense ?

thanks,
I will save that link,
something for a guy like me to take a serious look at,
as it appears I am Fergy oil filter challenged

I goggled this kit,
Wow what a disparity of prices for what appears to be the same kit,

eBay $149
Other sites, around $30-40

Think there is really any difference in kits, they all look the same,
