I just got a new transmission dipstick for my tractor. The handle broke off the old one. The problem is the old one is 6 3/8" long and the new one is just 4 3/4" long.
Can anyone tell me the right length?

If you will take the bottom bolt out of the inspection plate (have a container to catch extra oil) when the oil just quits running out of the bolt hole that is the correct amount of oil then you can make your own dipstick. I would make my dipstick at least 1/2" longer so you can tell when it does use some oil, you should make a mark on the stick so you know where the full mark is. Make sure the tractor is on level ground.
