it appears you have a Hupp over/under attachment for you tractor. I have one on my TEA 20. I do not use it much as it got stuck once in the low range. Was able to free and have been very cautious to use again. Others readers I am sure will lead you to the instructions on how to use.

"From my archives I found this for you,
"As for the Hupp, removal of that requires pulling off the nose cone. If your tractor has a top speed of about 25 MPH, you have the high range combo Hupp and removal is not a problem once you get the nose cone off. The bolts at the rear are an Allen wrench design and I believe they are 5/16 size. If your Hupp equipped tractor has a top speed of about 15 MPH then removal is a bit trickier as the rear gear hides the Allen bolts from plain view. To remove those, you rotate the gear around until the pre-cut notches in the gear align with the bolt heads allowing access for removal. If you keep a watch out on flea bay you might find one and yes, they will fit into a Home Depot plastic bucket that can be filled with oil for preservation. Typical Hupp goes about 1/2 price of a Sherman. If your Hupp is the newer design, the input and output shafts have 4 splines. The original design had 2 splines cut into the shaft. The original design was also prone to hanging up between ranges when shifting and a pita to get unstuck."
Looking at Johns website and the shape of that handle, I would say you might have the combo model with a bent handle. Do not shift of the go. Research johns site and when you shift your Hupp, operate the shift handle in a square pattern. Don't try to round off the edges as you shift the handle.
Huh? Typical manual 4 speed trans, when shifting up from 2 to 3, or down from 3 to 2 and instead of shifting the normal "H" pattern, you try to turn the bottom of the shift gate into an "S".

I really never understood the use of such a thing. Except.. Imperial Valley California? Where else are you so far from home you need to go 25 or 30 on an open tractor? It is an accident waiting to happen. Just last week i went / tried to go- down pavement in 3rd hi range on my turf 20- with turf tires- thought i was going to go into the woods! I know towns- where the legal speed limit is less than that. We had relatives near Newport Rhode island, and the limit was 15. In a standard shift, i couldn't go into 3rd.
Now, to have a creeper gear, and say- rototill at 1/2 a mph, useful. That is really why i went to fergies from Allis Chalmers, they all went too fast for my needs.
