Tef with spacers above liner

I finally got time to make a start on my seized TEf.
Took off the unlet and exhaust manifold. Disconnected the decompresion shaft and removed the rocker/ tappet shaft assembly. One shaft support is broken so that will need replacement or repair.
Pulled off the head and put cylinder liner retainers in place.
However the one on cylinder number 2 from drivers seat slipped off, my fault.
This is the stuck piston and it pushed up 2 rings which appear to be sitting above the liner.
Im waiting for pictures to upload to this machine, as soon as they do I will post them.

Looks normal. Should be a full ring and that ring with a cutout. If the tractor is fitted with some aftermarket liners the piston can't be separated and has it come out the bottom of the engine after the crank is removed. Not the simplest engine to work on.

Thanks Dolan, I was wondering if things were normal with this engine, as the haynes manual says that the liners should sit proud of the cylinderhead, but when I pulled mine apart they were all flush.

By that I believe they refer the the open ring sits proud of the block surface. By the looks of the photo they are correct.

With these cuff rings, when I removed the head and copper gasket, I could see a small locating pin that seems to hold the cuff ring from rotating, now I could easily see that one was missing, so I took some close up photos. Looking back the photos show all 4 cuff rings flush with the cylinder head.
I will refer back to the manual I downloaded as the gasket looks in great condition and I am now wondering if it has been done recently and the cuff rings driven down flush with the block at that time.

Looking at the two head gaskets side by side the old one looks to be better quality, stamped with Made in England and marked one side as TOP.
I can find no markings on the new one. What do you recon, put on the new one or put back the old one.
But the great news is it moved, Heat and Beat, for most of the day today, first I was able to heat the top part of my liner and force the piston up, then once it had moved one way the other direction was twice as hard. But I have achieved one complete revolution forwards and backwards.

Dolan, that photo was taken after i allowed the cylider liner to be pushed up, the others show the original position of the rings/ Collars and the little locking pin, as son as I took off the head and gasket.

The only problem was my eyesight. 2 to 4 thou the liners should protrude.
To say I cant see that is a understatement, but with a straight edge and a light behind it, I can see the light.
