Pulling the head on my TEF

Reading the manual it states that I will need a Service tool referred to as ftb 30 to get at head bolts below the rocker and decompression shafts.
Can any one shed some light on finding one or the specifics of the tool so I can make one.
Also please feel free to offer warnings and experience of your diesel experience.

I'm with diesel tech here, you've got to take these parts off sooner or later. To just do the head gasket seems like you save time, but really, it doesn't. You will never get all 8 pushrods in place, can't roll the head over, on and on. just remove and clean these shafts while you are into it this deep.

Sorry, re reading my post, I was trying not to be long winded, the manual states that I need the tool for reassembly, but I would have to be a clown to pull it apart knowing I cant put it back together as instructed. All well and good a genuine mistake in haste, but knowing I need a tool from 1956 and not knowing if its available or enev what it looks like, was a stumbling block.
I did realise that I have a picture of it in the Feguson manual.
Looks easy enough to make, but I would prefer the real thing to torque down the head bolts correctly when that time comes.

I doubt you will find the real deal, maybe someone will have one to loan.

The reason you need one for final reassembly is to retorque the head bolts after the first start up.

It shouldn't be that hard to make, and if it fits properly, no reason not to trust it.

Yes it looks like a 9/16 ring spanner bent into a U shape was the original with the modern closest being a 9/16 ring on a torque wrench extension.

Hum. I don't remember needing anything like that rebuilding my Standard..pural? But, to torque the head bolts on the shelf next to the spark plugs a Continental, yeah you have to improvise. A bad 1/2" drive socket welded to an old box wrench, and the torque specs aren't off by enough to mater. That might be what you need....
PCP can help you suss this out.. he is the master blaster of cobble...

I got around it the longer way. After running engine removed rocker assembly again and retorqued head bolts and refitted rocker assembly. Ran a feeler gauge of valves to make sure everything was fine

A smart option.
You are more than likely right when you say an 11/16 rather than a 9/16.
I will pop the rocker cover off again on my next day off and there will be lots of pictures, as they will help with reassembly.

The water incylinder 2 does seem to have come from an open vertical exhaust. I pulled the inlet and exhaust manifolds this afternoon and there was lots of water in the exhaust. When i removed it i had water flow out of the block from number 1 closest to the driver, so that exhaust valve must be closed.
Does that make sense?

Makes sense yea, but i think you might need to bite the bullet and send this block to a shop. It needs to be soaked and i am going to bet re-machined in a few spots. That's been sitting in squaller for awhile now. Might as well take it all apart, and i will bet the clutch had a rodent or marsupial or 2 nesting in there. This is a project.
