alternator replacement ?

Have F40 with a Continental engine 134 out of 35. 12 volt system, can i just replace with any similar style alternator i can find locally?

I wouldn't say the 1 wire is the best but it's by far the easiest to wire in. If it were anything but a tractor which has minimal requirements for power I'd say go with a Delco 3 wire, but a 1 wire will be more than ample and certainly better than a generator.

I installed the 3 wire Delco alternator on my Ferguson TO-20.
I followed the wiring instructions with the installation of a resistor in the line from the ignition switch to the first blade terminal, and it works except the engine will not turn off when the ignition switch is turned to off. I'm now told I need a 3 amp Diode in this line along with the resistor. Which side of the line do I put the Diode? Between the switch and resistor or between the resistor and the Alternator? Or does it make and difference?
