hi everyone. I am looking to fit a sickle mower to my tea20 when I find one but they look a bit dangers ? Any one us one and things I should be looking for on buying one. Or should I go for something different thanks in advance cheers Steve

Are you talking about cutting grass, hay or weeds? All three of them use different types of implements usually.

steve,
in my humble opinion a sickle mower can be very dangerous, you must keep your fingers away from the front of the cutter bar when raising and lowering the cutter bar,

Ferguson back in the day (I have seen one on a you tube video) made a mower cutter bar guard that you kept over the cutter bar until you laid down the bar in the field. However, mowers are no more dangerous than a chainsaw or an old corn picker.
you just have to know when and where to put your fingers

I have a MF32 sickle mower for my TO35 tractor dad bought it new in 1960 was a great old mower back in its day, it still does a good job clipping weeds etc, but probably not for thick hay.

it is very easy to hook up as it uses the standard three point hitch and one stabilizer bar under the right side of the tractor.

some mowers are very difficult to attach even 3 pt models.

john deere made a good mower, but most old sickle mowers have gone to the scrap barn,
just make sure you can get replacement parts no matter the brand you buy.
and that it will fit your tractor!!!!!!!!!!!

In my experience, sickle mowers don't cut grass particularly well. I'd strongly recommend a bush hog for that.

But - Sickle mowers have their place. They're great for mowing around ponds and ditches, under trees, and anywhere else you need a little extra reach.

How many of you mowed hay with one, and know how to cut a square corner? I always liked doing that. :D

Whatever..a cycle bar mower is a good piece of machinery, BUT BEWARE to always have the cutting bar retracted before you raise the cutter bar..

Many gingers have been lost when the knives slip down..

NEVER put a finger in the path of the knife..they CAN slide down and catch ya..

if you do find a sickle bar mower you want to clip your weeds.

you will want to invest in an (end of cutter bar) support wheel

the wheel will keep the end of your bar up out of the dirt and allow you to cut level.

picture attached, I have one for my mower, I guess you can still buy them?
or have someone make one,
this one fits a Ford or MF mower.
it can be set at different heights, note the number of attachment holes.
