need info on my tea 20 ,repairing brakes and fixing a slight leak . I removed the axle to inspect and found the shims were all broken ,looks like previous owner pieced them back together. the brake backer plate has one on the inside facing the brakes against the axle flange. is this correct? my manual does not show a back plate
And should i use a gasket sealer between shims .

should I use a gasket sealer between shims .

No , the shims are critical for setting the gap between the axles , using sealant will make this very hard if not impossible to do correctly . The sealant will compact as you tighten the bolts and ruin any clearance you have set . It is not unusual to find many shims packed together on each side on some tractors .

I have had the shafts out and gone thru this.

Follow the directions in the manual and get the shims in the right place. The word is do not use any compound or selant as the axle does move slightly against the shims ( this is from john UK how worked on these things in there day)

New axles shims are available here in the parts section. They are used to set the gap between the axle ends in the differential. I hope you
picked up a repair manual that explains the procedure

I have new shims ordered should be here today. I have one shaft out and cleaned ready to go back in , the other side i have 5 of the 6 bolts out. the last one will not budge the last thing i need is to snap it off .this project keeps getting BIGGER .

Yup just snapped it off .I thought it might pull out as the threads only go through the axle flange but it won't pull out .this day keeps getting better
