To 30 3 point question

I have a TO30 with a 6 foot scraper blade. My question is if I turn it around and use it in reverse to push snow, stone piles,or brush into the burn
pile can I harm the 3 point system? I was doing this lightly and at times the blade would ride up on its own, pushing into the brush pile. It didn't
seem right so I quit before something broke or I harmed the system. I realize the system was meant for pulling so I'm wondering about pushing.
I'm not gonna go hog wild but I thought I should ask, thanks, John

The first thing you likely will break doing that is the control arm with the level adjustment box. It is the weak link in that process.

Phil, I read your comment very clearly but don't understand at all. I'll look in my parts book for some clarity. Can you provide some more info please. The bottom line I dont want to hurt anything so I just won't do it again. I can pull our light snows here in Delaware, same with the stone. I can just angle the blade to pull it to the edge of the driveway. Thanks,

I have been pushing snow and brush back wards for over 45 years with my TO 20 and have not broke
anything yet. Probably will tomorrow tho. I would not worry too much about it.

The control arm on the right side with the leveling box breaks first. And of course it is the more expensive side.

Pushing backwards has one advantage. As you're pushing, you can lift up the 3 point hitch. That adds weight to the rear tires, giving you more traction.

If you do that with a rear mounted blade, you can shorten the top link. That allows for more picking up on the material you're pushing, transferring more weight to the rear tires.

I have never broken anything doing that.

The Latin derivation for tractor is 'to pull' not push. Tractors are made to pull, not the other direction. I've had two tractors that broke those arms at the leveling box, one pushing gravel, the other pushing into a big round bale (I wasn't driving that one).

The blade rides up because there is no down force except for the weight of the blade and the hitch parts. The upper link is usually in tension when pushing backwards but the system is designed for top link compression due to drag force when using ground engaging implements. the control fork is tending to pull the control valve in the drop direction.
