saw an ad in ferguson furrows:

company called "woodex bearing co., inc." advertises wood bearings.

don't know a thing about them. just an info post.

Red gum is used here , once formed you boil them in oil for a few hours . They absorb a surprising amount of oil and swell a little as well .

at least until recently, the fanciest combines still used wood bearings for slow speed, low stress places such as straw walkers. plastics were tried but they dont absorb and hold the lube like wood does. wood bearings are great for stuff like packing rollers and other dirt farming jobs where alignment is not critical and ease of replacement is ideal! on some of our machines, the grease fitting threads right into the wood block, but it think on the disks, there is a cast saddle system that bolts together and holds the two piece wood bearing in place and supplies the lube.
i like to ask the riddle of where wood was used on early vw air cooled engines? it was placed inside the push rod and the action of the wood dowel working back and forth in the reciprocating push rod worked oil down the horizontal pushrod for valve trail lubrication. HA HA HA HA
