I'm rebuilding my hydraulic pump. I noticed the control valve has a long rod attached to it. The new one does not have this. Will it work without the rod?

In the archives I found this quote from John (UK). All help I've received from John (UK) has been accurate so I assume this to be.

"3 Jeff Oh is puzzled by the slots in some Control Valve, this is because there were two different types of oscillator fitted, the original square type with the long thin rod and the later flat aluminium strip type, this is the one that uses the slots in the Control Valve to drive it, this type is still held in position in a similar fashion to the earlier type, but they don't interchange. Should you have an oscillator that gets damaged and you can't find a replacement, simply use it without, providing there are no wear ridges on the Control Valve, you should have little trouble with it sticking. These valves weren't prone to sticking, it was just that occasionally they did, so they fitted the oscillator to help reduce the instances of this happening. A major cause of these Control Valves sticking is leaving the tractor parked with the implement raised, just lower it when you park up." [Bold is my addition]

I appreciate it guys. I guess my problem now is that I can't find one with that rod for sale. NOWHERE. no one I've talked to seems to know if it'll work without it.

Here is a picture from my service manual of the two pumps and two control valves.

TO30 on left. TO20 on right.

I've not had mine apart yet so my info is based on book knowledge only...

Is this the part you mean? And the rod you mean marked with the red arrow? The picture is form my part's book.

The reason I ask is that the parts book I have lists different variations of the valve assembly for the TO20 and TO30 and the difference was the "oscillating control". It was added for a TO30.

It is my understanding that a valve from TO20 will work in a TO30.

If I'm wrong on this I'm sure I'll get corrected.

I believe the rod controls the valve No rod, no control.
