does the 3pt on this tractor hold on a set position, or is it either all the way up or down. i see references to the zane thang for hitch control. i have a new to me t0-20 that i am putting finish mower on (woods rm 600) and have a middle buster/ single shank ripper for it. (primarily to point some ditches.)

here is we used to do. find the position where you want your implement to ride. move the wing nut on quadrant under the hyd lever and tighten. as long as the pto is spinning the implement will be held at that position. I did it with grader blades, mowers, etc.

A TO20 has draft control but no true position control.

If you want position control here is a link to a very simple easy to make device to give nice position control. The article not only has plans, but also a very brief description of draft control vs position control and using the hydraulics on a TO20/30.

I followed these plans and made one for my TO30. It works well. But there are other designs out there.

Enjoy your TO20.

I bought a single shank from someone. He said, if memory serves, he had a slight problem with it grabbing a root at one time and stripped the teeth off the pinion, I haven' used it but I suspect that if you do use one, you may keep that in the back of your mind.

Thanks for all the info. I will make up one of the position control deals. Looks like a winner!!!

If you are going to use the tractor for mowing, there is a method to set the existing 3 point up for position control with a rotary cutter. I call it Marlowe"s Method after the forum contributor who posted it, George Marlowe. Look in the archives.

I've been dragging this mower around for a couple of years now without any hydraulics, In fact I just fixed the top cover about a week ago. Anyway you won't have to use your hydraulics much if you have four gauge wheels. If you only have two rear gauge wheels you can add limiter chain to the front of the mower. If your draft in set right it would be ok for middle buster/ripper.
