Ferguson 35 gas tank leak

I have Ferguson 35 gas tank that is leaking around the area of the sediment bowl. I can not tell if the threads are bad or if it around the area where the threads are brazed to the tank. I want to restore this tractor so are there any suggestions to stop the leak for good? I did buy another tank on the internet, but it is worse than the original one.
Any suggestions or a good tank for sale at a reasonable price would be appreciated.
thank you.

First you are going to have to determine where the leak is coming from,

I would first drain the tank, take the cutoff valve out , use a gas resistant tape on the threads, reinstall in the tank,

Pour gas in, see if you still have the leak

If so, you are going to have to find someone to repair the tank or replace it,

Leaking water or oil is a pain, but it will not blowup or catch on fire like a leaking gas tank
Safety first!

I have found yellow colored teflon tape works better than the white. It is thicker and a bit easier to work with. Yellow, I believe, is designed for natural gas/LP etc. I never had a problem.

If it just a small weep from the fuel tap fitting I would be inclined to use this .

I used it on an English made Triumph Stag made in 1971, the tank had a two inch area peppered with small holes . It was the lowest part of the tank and collected water , hence the rust .
I cleaned the area and smeared it into and over the holes and a little way past them .
I kept that car for years afterwards , the leak never reappeared .
It is fast setting , easy to apply , dries hard and can be sanded and painted .

This is the fuel tap from a TED20 [ petrol, Kerosene fuel ]. It is a difficult one to seal as there are many joints in the dual outlets, it is leaking in this photo . I used red fibre plumbing washers and Permatex Aviation form a gasket sealing compound to reseal it a few months ago , no leaks as yet and a much neater result .

Chances are the tank is rusted where the fitting is brazed in.

Aftermarket tanks are available, but the one I bought didn't fit without modifying the front mount, had to mill it down to get hood clearance.

There are methods to repair an original tank. The only real fix is to cut out the rusted bottom and weld in new steel. Not easy but it will be right when done. If I had a do-over, that is what I would have done.

Gov 35 I hope its not the 35 standard as those tanks are different if not mistaken, have to check tomorrow. I'd get the red pint can of tank sealer and coat outside and inside.
