Hi all
Apart from the usual casting marks ( "K" ,17 12 8) there is
another mark " CHROMIDIUM" in a banner style. Can anyone
shed some light on this?
Cheers
Ben

The type of metal alloy used for the block , basically a brand name for the company's ' youbeaut ' magic formula for cast iron . It is supposed to be better at resisting corrosion than other types .
You can often find the same casting mark on later model TEA heads .

Some companies used chrome, some used nickel, to control structure, strength,
machinability and wear characteristics.
I seem to remember that it also acted as a "flux" that caused impurities to
float to the top. From what I just read, adding both chromium and
nickel was counterproductive, but some old-time companies did.
