tea20 Brake Drum Lining

Checking my brake shoes and see that they will need replacing as down to the rivets.

While I am at thinking is it possible to have the drum lining machined so as to give smooth surface. What would be the tolerances if possible.
Thanks

I don't know the max diameter, but I suspect it's in the shop manual.

How far down in the rivets are they? Close, really thin?

And what are the future plans for the tractor?

If it is still a working tractor, then yes, you can probably get them turned, just use some judgment, maybe not take them to complete clean up if they are getting thin. But remember, the new shoes won't have the correct arc to fit, so the brakes will be somewhat ineffective until the shoes wear to fit the drums.

But if it's working days are over, just going to be for show and play, think about just leaving the shoes and drums as they are, especially if they are not oil soaked. Think how many years of working it tool to get them to where they are!

The shoes are well worn down to the rivets, I plan on doing a bit with the tractor once I have it up and running including on road use so would like the brakes to be effective. The drums don't appear to be overly scoured but I thought that about my cylinders to and got laughed at. Anyways thought that it wouldn't hurt to have them drums looked at while they off and get the surface done. Guess it depends if they have been done before or are past it. The shoe pads look to have worn evenly.
