Water temperature gauge

I am trying to replace the temp gauge on my 55 TO 35, using the UTG25 universal gauge. The sensor probe will not fit the hole in the engine block. When I compare the old one to the new you can see a slight difference. Also measured the old one is about a1/4 in and the new almost 3/8 in. Could there be something I need to remove in the block? Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks

Most temp. probes have a pipe thread adapter that screws into the block, yours should of come with one if it's universal,if not you can take the old one out so you know the thread size and visit your local auto parts store and they should be able to fix you up.

This is the piece that will not fit in the block. It's to big.

I had the problem on a TO 30 I drilled out the hole just don't drill out all the seat the probe seats on

I would take back this unit and buy a unit that fit the head,

You could damage the head drilling on it to fit an after market part,

I would want a top quality replacement temp gauge that fit properly if I could find one,
Just my two cents,

I replaced the temp gauge on my TO35 years ago, part fit with no problems,

The sensor doesn't go in the block, or not supposed to.

It goes in the left side, up underneath the thermostat housing on front of the head. If you bought it for a TO35, it will have the proper thread to fit the hole in the tstat housing.

Putting the sensor in the block will not give an accurate reading. By the time the lower part of the block gets hot, the head (where all the heat is) will be well beyond the safe running range.
