Hi

This is the air cleaner off my ted20 that was causing it to run rich. You can see why. This is off an 1951 and the bottom of the air clean is spot welded on so drilled them out then found 60 years of crude. No wonder it was running rich.

I had already soaked this in petrol or kero, but it did nothing.

so its worth takinge it apart to clean.
Hope this can help someone out..

A big word that starts with S as well .

Throw that lot away and stuff the inside with coarse stainless steel pot scourers from the supermarket , not too thick , just enough to fill the void . Works just as well as the original and of course will never rust .
You can buy the proper replacement element if you want too .
I have copied your photo to put into my archive of horrors :)

Glad to see this posted! Hope everyone see it!

That is a much neglected area with little mention, even in the owners manuals.

So many people thing cleaning the bowl is all that is necessary!

Thanks!

Says something for the Case D series. They had an oil bath air cleaner you could easily pull all the gauze out, wash it and put it back in.
Then the mass produced tin ones all spot welded up took over the market. Cheaper, I guess. but a pain to clean. Now, of course paper elements
and pricey to replace. That's progress.

Hummmm.... looks very moist and rich... springtime down there isn't it? what if you put a tomato seed in one, and a potato in the other half... see how they turn out....

MMMM maybe it a good bull Sh!t mix for some mushrooms...

Anyone ever come across a replacement air filter that will fit the canister to replace the oil.recon it could be a cleaner setup

Nothing wrong with the oil bath set up , and its cheap , cost nothing more than a cup of oil , just more frequently than once every 45 years !
I'd swear that that muck is probably older than you are . :)
