TO30 shut off valve

I've been starting the tractor up every week or so in this cold weather just to keep the battery up. Well today I had it running for about 10
minutes and it shut off, hmm that's odd never happened before and I know it had gas. With a little investigating the fuel shut off valve had
vibrated closed. Opened it up and restarted it. Watched it a minute or so and sure enough with the tractor at idle the valve was closing by itself.
Question: can I turn what I would call the packing nut slightly to tighten up the stem so that it does not vibrate open or closed? It looks to be the
original, as the rest of the tractor is. I am running the valve 2 turns open. I dont want to fully open it. Any other suggestions? Thanks, John.

Yes, tighten it a little. I'm surprised it's not leaking. Be gentle with the nut, if it doesn't want to turn or feels like it's bottomed out, take it out and wrap some string or rolled up teflon tape on top of the existing packing, then try to snug it down.

Mine did the same thing. (Aftermarket replacement.)

You might also want to check that tiny Phillips screw that holds the knob on the stem - they can vibrate off, too. (And, they're tough to find!) A bit of thread locker will fix that.
