To30 starter button questions

The 53 feeguson to30 i have has the starter button dissabled and there is an aftermarket key that starts it when u turn it. What needs to be done to put it back to stock...i basically understand the concept of the original button but do not see where any wires come out from where the stock starter button would be.
Thanks

First thing to do is remove the original starter switch, inspect it, clean it up, replace it if in doubt, and make sure every thing is there, adjusted properly and ready to work.

Then you will transfer the cables from the added solenoid to the original switch.

There will be a cable from the battery, and an accessory wire. Those will go on one lug of the original switch (doesn't matter which lug).

The other cable will go to the other lug, straight to the starter.

The remaining small wire to the solenoid can be removed from the key switch and discarded, along with the solenoid switch.

Do you have all of the parts in the diagram? If they are there you may just need to replace the start switch and adjust the plate it mounts on to make it work. Mr. Ferguson did this so you could never start it in gear.

Im hoping to get into it this week. Just replaced the starter drive and have to put starter in, my main thing was not knowing where the starter switch was located but now i figured that out so can sort out the wires.
Thanks for info

Should my 53 to30 have a 2 wire key or 3 wire?
Just trying to sort it out to figure whats original.
As i see parts manuals list both key switches but dont give info as to which was used

Can you answer a question I have. Does the distributor have to be removed, to remove the starter ?
Thanks CKain

That's how I've always had to do it. I may be doing something wrong. :D

I can slip mine out without removing it. It is tight. If you do remove it make sure it is timed correctly or it may break the nose cone. I would check the timing regardless.

I did not remove distributir to take starter out..a little tough to reach the bolts. I had those wrenches with the ratchet in the end so could get them out without too much trouble

You should be able to take the starter from a TO30 without removing the distributor. I believe that to be true in general. But I know for sure that it is true on my TO30.

I know it looks impossible at first, but it does work. The starter comes out very easily.

(I guess all bets are off if you have a non-original starter that is a different shape or has different dimensions.)
